This is the official site of the Tri-City group. Made up of Fredericton (of the Canada: New Brunswick Region), Gainesville, Fl region, and Peoria, IL region of National Novel Writing Month: aka NaNo WriMo. Maintained by the co-Municipal Liaisons for these regions, it has a list of all the planned events.

The goal of NaNo WriMo is to write a novel in a month – November to be exact. 50,000 words in 30 days – sounds impossible? Nonsense, as long as you keep in mind the two mottos of great NaNo WriMo participants everywhere:

1) No plot? No Problem!

2) Quantity, not quality.

Don’t let the plot ninjas get you down, and check here for local events that will help keep you writing when you want to stop and argue with your characters, or when plot bunnies make you want to pull out your hair.

Below is a bit of information about each of the 3 regions in the Tri-city Challenge.

About Gainesville

Gainesville is home of the University of Florida, whose Gator football and basketball teams have recently enjoyed national championships. UF was founded in 1905 by the consolidation of the East Florida Seminary and the state’s land-grant Florida Agricultural College. With over 51,000 students, UF is now one of the five largest universities in the nation. Gatorade was invented in Gainesville.

Local sites of geological interest include the Devil’s Millhopper – a 20-million-year-old sinkhole, and Paynes Prairie – which has a wildlife sanctuary where a rare herd of buffalo roams, and descendants of the first horses brought here by the Spanish are maintained as well.

Gainesville is home to Sister Hazel, Tom Petty, the Papercranes, Against Me and Less than Jake. Notiable authors from Gainesville include Joe Haldeman, M.D. Abrams, David Leavitt, Padget Powell, Mary Robison and Jill Ciment – the last two of whom had books on Oprah’s 2009 Summer Reading List.

A college town, the population of Gainesville is in constant flux, with the largest age-group represented as traditional college-age category. The number of participants from NaNo WriMo has grown over the years, with a large range of age groups represented, writing in a multitude of genres.
